Energy system integration

The Energy System Integration working group is based at the CUTEC Research Center and carries out application-oriented research and development work on the design of future energy systems. On the one hand, these energy systems are characterized by the coupling of the consumption sectors electricity, heat, transport and industrial processes. On the other hand, renewable energies, in particular wind and solar energy, are the main energy sources for achieving a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.

The Energy System Integration department focuses on research and development activities in the following areas:

  • Modeling and simulation of energy systems
    • Integration of generation, grids, storage and use
    • Analysis of renewable systems for electricity, heat, transport, industry
  • Energy scenarios
    • for countries, municipalities, industry
    • Energy supply for the primary industry
    • Energy system technology for coupled systems, storage options
    • Potential studies, feasibility studies, energy balances/life cycle assessments
  • Practical implementation in the model system
    • Development of energy-efficient processes for generation, conversion and consumption
    • Combined heat and power with new technologies, virtual power plants
